Boulders Social Responsibility

Bouldering is a sport that was originally practiced on natural rocks and large stone formations. Since the 1990s, bouldering has grown in popularity and the number of indoor climbing centres has increased significantly. At Boulders, we are therefore committed to a sustainable focus, respecting the environment and the nature that has given us the opportunity to climb. Our strategy and vision is to have a positive impact on all touch points, from the construction to the operation of climbing halls, from local to global level. Boulders is a Danish-owned company created by climbers, for the benefit of all of Denmark.

The Environment

The construction of Boulder climbing gyms is as sustainable as possible.

All construction is in FSC-certified wood. This means that all the wood we use to build our climbing gyms comes from forests where extra efforts are made to preserve biodiversity and prevent deforestation. In addition, FSC also ensures good conditions for local forest workers.

We have started integrating 100% bamboo climbing walls in many of our gyms. Bamboo contributes to our desire for sustainable bouldering, as the production of bamboo is Long more efficient due to its naturally fast growth: about 20 meters per year. Of all plants, bamboo absorbs the most CO2, effectively reducing the greenhouse effect. Watch a video on how the boards are made.

All Boulders are equipped with a café that carries almost exclusively products from organic and Danish producers. You'll find sodas from Danish Naturfrisk and beer from Nørrebro Bryghus. Our delicious coffee comes from Copenhagen Coffee Lab, which only supplies organic fair trade coffee. Fairtrade coffee means good conditions for the coffee farmers and protecting their local environment.

The climbing gyms are powered by certified environmentally friendly quota power. This means that all the energy used by gyms is connected to renewable energy sources.

Even our mattresses are sustainable! The foam in our mattresses is made from rapeseed and sunflower oil. When old mattresses are replaced, they are given away to home improvement projects.

We use climbing ropes made of plastic, which deteriorate over time. Grips are replaced about every two years. 80% of the old grips are given to sports institutions and associations in Denmark, and the rest are sold for home training walls. In this way, more and more people can experience the joy of climbing.

Society

Boulders cooperates with institutions, aid organisations and associations. We give over 5000 climbing trips a year.
