"Magnus Midtbø" fought for a place in the final at BlocParty 24 in Boulders Hvidovre

At Boulders, we've hosted many memorable competitions, but last fall, the competitors at BlocParty had a brand new experience. If you were at the gym for BlocParty 2024, you might remember a guy in a mask pretending to be a famous YouTuber in the climbing community. He called himself "Magnus".

A familiar face, hairless forearms and nightmare fuel

When "Magnus" entered the gym, the resemblance to Magnus Midtbø, the Norwegian sport climber and YouTuber, was striking. Equipped with Magnus' iconic Rúngne gear from head to toe, blond hair, hairless forearms and friendly brown eyes, it was easy to believe that the climbing legend himself had come to Hvidovre... well, if you could ignore the slightly deformed face and chest muscles on the outside of the hoodie, that is.

Magnus is known for showing up at various climbing gyms, undercover in full costume and with a new identity. As the competition progressed, rumors quickly began to spread - could it be him, undercover and dressed as himself? Ironically, it wouldn't be the first time. The proof is here!

25 problems, but no place in the final

In the video, Boulders Hvidovre became the stage for a unique experiment, and the mastermind behind it was sport climber and YouTuber Emil Abrahamsson. It takes dedication to transform into Magnus and attempt all 25 bouldering problems wearing a mask, hoodie and contact lenses. From tricky slab challenges to demanding power problems, "Magnus" gave it his all with determination and a good sense of humor.

When Denmark's strongest climbers meet up to compete, it's a serious battle, and "Magnus" couldn't match the competition. We still don't know if it was the costume that cost him his place in the final, but fingers crossed he'll be back next year for a rematch!

Don't miss the video!

Watch Emil's brilliant video above and head over to YouTube to give it a like! Tell us: did you know who was hiding behind the mask?
