How to use chalk in climbing?
How to choose and use chalk.
Bouldering is a fun and challenging sport, one of the key elements of climbing is to use chalk.
The lime helps you while climbing to hold on to the holds better, we want to have good friction between the holds and fingers so that we do not slip off the climbing holds. If you do not use chalk, you also use more effort to hold on.
Choosing chalk:
Before using chalk, you need to find out what kind of chalk you prefer. In Boulders we sell both loose and floating chalk. It's very subjective which kind is preferred, so it's a case of trial and error.
The advantage of liquid chalk is that it does not create dust and an even layer is applied to the whole hand. Loose chalk requires a chalk bag.
Application of chalk:
Now that you have your chalk, put it on your hands, put your hand in the lime bag and get the lime well on your hands and fingers, shake your hands in the lime bag, you will use less chalk and not spill on the mattress.
The aim is to get an even layer on the whole hand, so you hold on to the grips better.
Remove redundant chalk:
Once you have chalk on your fingers it is good to get the excess chalk off, too much chalk on your hands can have the opposite effect and make it easier to slip.
The goal is to wear chalk enough to create friction and save your chalk by shaking off excess chalk in the bag.
Happy climbing!
